Interview with Domènec Pintó, Business Administrator of Catalana Drilling, on the company’s strategic vision and growth in Germany

“We are one single company, with one team and one shared vision, both nationally and internationally”

At Catalana Drilling, the international brand of Catalana de Perforacions, we continue to strengthen our commitment to quality, innovation and technical excellence in the drilling and underground construction sector.

Although we operate under two brands — Catalana de Perforacions at national level and Catalana Drilling internationally — both share the same essence: one company, one team and the same DNA built over more than 55 years of experience.

This month, we speak with Domènec Pintó, Business Administrator of the company, who has led both the evolution of Catalana de Perforacions in Spain and the expansion of Catalana Drilling in Germany.

His strategic vision has been key to consolidating the company’s presence in a highly technical and demanding market such as Germany, where accumulated experience and adaptability have played a fundamental role.

In this interview, Domènec Pintó shares the challenges, opportunities and key factors behind the company’s growth in Germany, as well as the importance of maintaining a cohesive corporate identity across both national and international markets.

Domènec, as Business Administrator at both national and international level, how would you describe the expansion of Catalana Drilling in Germany and its integration with the company’s national trajectory?

The expansion into Germany has been a natural step within the company’s international growth strategy. We have successfully transferred the know-how and experience acquired in Spain to a highly demanding market, adapting to its specific requirements while maintaining our identity.

In this sense, our international development is clearly aligned with our national trajectory: we are one single company, with one team, one vision and a shared way of working.

Which elements of the company’s DNA, built over more than 55 years of activity, have been most decisive in entering and consolidating the German market?

Our more than 55 years of experience have undoubtedly played a fundamental role. This is combined with strong technical capabilities, high operational flexibility and a constant commitment to quality.

Our culture of effort and adaptability has been essential in meeting the high standards required by the German market and securing a solid position within it.

Germany has a very specific technical and regulatory framework. What have been the main challenges in transferring national experience to the international context?

The main challenge has been adapting to a very strict regulatory environment and exceptionally high technical standards.

It has also been crucial to understand and integrate into the German way of working, which is highly structured and strongly focused on planning. Successfully integrating into this environment has required continuous learning and a strong focus on process excellence.

Catalana de Perforacions and Catalana Drilling operate as one company in different markets. How is this synergy coordinated and what value does it bring to clients?

This synergy is based on constant communication between teams and shared processes. Although we operate in different markets, we function as a single organisation, which allows us to optimise resources, share technical knowledge and leverage collective experience.

For our clients, this results in a more reliable, consistent and comprehensive service with the same quality standards across all projects.

From a strategic perspective, what role do innovation, in-house engineering and the ability to design proprietary machinery play in national and international growth?

They are a key differentiating factor. Our capacity for innovation and in-house engineering allows us to adapt to highly specific project requirements and to deliver tailor-made solutions.

This flexibility provides us with a clear competitive advantage at both national and international level and is one of the pillars supporting our growth.

Is there any recent project in Germany that particularly reflects the company’s technical and operational culture?

We began our activity in Germany with projects related to fibre optic deployment, an area in which we continue to operate today. Building on this foundation, we have progressively expanded into more complex projects, such as those related to high-voltage power lines. These works require a high level of technical precision, strict regulatory compliance and operational excellence. They clearly reflect our evolution in the German market and our culture based on quality, safety and efficiency.

Looking ahead, what are the next steps to further strengthen international presence without losing the essence of the national brand?

Our objective is to continue consolidating our presence in Germany and to further develop our activity in the French market, where we already operate under the Catalana Drilling brand, which represents our international activity in all countries outside Spain. At the same time, we aim to expand into new European markets, with a particular focus on the United Kingdom.

We are committed to sustained growth in technically demanding environments, leveraging our experience and adaptability. All of this is achieved without losing our essence as a company, maintaining a cohesive corporate identity between Catalana de Perforacions at national level and Catalana Drilling internationally, while further strengthening our commitment to quality, innovation and collaborative teamwork across all teams.
